a day in the life of TFA CM

First of all, yesterday I finished the five week training program for Teach for America, called institute.
Secondly, everything in TFA had an acronym, I mean everything.

So here is what a typical day of my life from the last five weeks looked like

5:45am my alarm goes off!
6:20am I leave for ASU to pack my lunch, eat some breakfast and be on the bus by 7am.
7:20am arrive at Chavez Elementary and prep for the day (which could include anything from making posters, sharpening pencils, cleaning the classroom, morning duty or meeting with our FA).
8:30am the students arrive in class and we spend an hour in small groups working on reading and math called AIH.
9:30am- leave the class and head off to a session (the time when the CMs learn really great things on how to be a great teacher)
11:00am- Diff time- free time to prep more stuff, observe other classrooms, grade work, relax, make some real life phone calls)
11:30am- back to the class to start teaching the afternoon block. We are co-teaching with one other CM, so I teach the INM before lunch
11:55am line the kids up for lunch and head done to cafeteria, eat lunch with them and line them back up
12:25pm back in class with the kids, do GP and IP and give the assessment
1:00pm- the other teacher takes over and I watch and them step in to parallel teaching (breaking the class into small groups for more differentiated practice)
2:05pm- back in more sessions for the afternoon.
5:10pm- Campus meeting and shout outs
5:25pm- load the bus
6:45pm arrive back at ASU and either meet with CMA for our ODC, prep lesson plan, print and make copies, check things our the resource room, or lesson plan for the next week lessons
7:00-10:00pm- head home and sometimes go to bed or keep working to finish everything for the next day.
Repeat for 5 weeks and your life will fly by.

FA- faculty adviser
AIH- academic intervention hour
CM- corp member
INM- introduction to new material
GP- guided practice
IP- independent practice
ODC- Observation debrief cycle or meeting with my CMA to discuss good things and next steps
CMA- corp member adviser, basically my teacher for the summer
